Caring Services Advocacy

A Helping Hand in Times of Great Urgency

“Sometimes, the person who’s been there for everyone else needs someone to be there for them.”

Caring Services Advocacy provides a complement of distinct, customized services to help older adults maintain their legal and financial independence. USS advocates can help to keep monthly bills current and utility costs manageable, access legal assistance, provide counseling for Medicare benefits, and advocate for individuals who have no family available or able to help.

Trained USS professionals provide a range of supports when life circumstances require a trusted advocate. Contributions are gratefully accepted.

Representative Payee/Bill Payer

Social Security Administration certified Representative Payee services are available for clients over 60 who are at risk of exploitation and are unable to manage their finances independently. Assistance is also available for those who need help with monthly bill paying, checkbook balancing, and budgeting.

Emergency Assistance

Assistance is available for utility bill shut-offs and other emergent needs. USS assists with the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) as well as Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP) applications. Contact USS Emergency Assistance at 937-521-3005.

Safe & Secure Program

Trained USS staff identify and assist at-risk older adults who are in danger of self-neglect, abuse and financial exploitation. Once assessed, staff provide resources and/or make referrals for services.

Legal Assistance

Volunteer licensed attorneys have provided consultations on legal issues in a confidential setting at USS. This service is currently on hold until we have a new volunteer.

Living Wills and Power of Attorney for Healthcare forms are available at USS.

Volunteer Guardianship Program

Ohio Supreme Court trained volunteers serve as Guardian of Person for individuals 60+ who are in nursing homes and have no family willing, able or appropriate to do so. Learn more here.
