Why Fitness is Essential for Older Adults

Staying active is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, especially as we age. At USS, we’re committed to providing fitness opportunities that help our members stay strong and healthy. Regular physical activity has been shown to improve overall well-being, reduce the risk of chronic diseases and enhance mental health.

As part of our ongoing commitment to our members, our annual campaign this year will be focused on improving our fitness equipment and rooms. With more members joining USS for our fitness programs, we’ve outgrown our current space and certain pieces of equipment are in high-demand, especially during peak times. On Saturdays alone, over 500 individuals have utilized our facilities for fitness activities, including a growing number of younger members. In fact, 20% of our members on Saturdays are new, demonstrating how vital these resources are in our community.

Full Body Exercise: A Comprehensive Workout for Active Older Adults

One of our most popular programs is Full Body Exercise, formerly known as Focus on Fitness. This group-led experience offers a methodical workout that targets all major joints and muscles. Each class begins with stretching exercises to loosen muscles and increase range of motion. This is followed by aerobic exercises designed to elevate heart rate and circulation, and concludes with body core and resistance exercises to strengthen muscles.

Full Body Exercise is perfect for older adults looking to achieve a healthier integration of movement and balance. All equipment is provided, and exercises can be adjusted based on individual ability, making it accessible for everyone. Classes are available at the USS downtown location on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 a.m., and at the USS Enon location on Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. Each session is just $2, which can be paid in advance or as you arrive.

By investing in our fitness facilities and programs like Full Body Exercise, USS is ensuring that all our members have access to the resources they need to stay active and healthy. Join US[S] in our mission to promote fitness and wellness for older adults in our community.
