Older Americans Month: Powered by Connection
It’s time to honor and celebrate the contributions and vitality of our older community members for Older Americans Month! This year’s theme, “Powered by Connection,” resonates deeply with the USS mission as we continue our commitment to keeping those age 55 or better in our community connected, engaged, and thriving.
Through the support of the Healthy Aging Grant, USS is bolstering its efforts to ensure older adults have the resources and support they need to stay connected to their communities, especially in this digital age. Here’s how we’re making strides in fostering connections and community building:
Empowering Through Education
One of our primary initiatives involves increasing educational opportunities about technology and scam awareness. In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, it’s crucial for older adults to feel confident navigating technology while also being vigilant against scams. Through workshops, seminars, and informational sessions, we’re equipping older adults with the knowledge and skills they need to stay safe and connected online.
Accessible Learning
Recognizing the diverse needs of our community, USS is introducing recorded and live educational opportunities about various topics, including technology and scam awareness. These resources are designed to be accessible from the comfort of one’s home, ensuring that all older adults, regardless of mobility or location, can benefit from the wealth of information and support available.
Personalized Support
We understand that technology can be daunting for some, which is why USS is offering personalized tutoring and support to clients in their homes and in our centers. Our dedicated team members work one-on-one with older adults to demystify technology and connect them to family, education, fitness, and other essential online opportunities. By meeting individuals where they are, we’re fostering meaningful connections and empowering older adults to thrive in the digital age.
Expanding Meal Services
At the heart of community is the shared experience of coming together to share a meal. USS is proud to announce the expansion of our Meal Services in Clark County, offering additional dining rooms and voucher programs at various locations throughout the area. Whether it’s gathering at the Moorefield Township or Bethel Township (opening in June) dining rooms or enjoying a voucher meal at Studebaker’s Country Restaurant, the Carriage Inn in Enon, or the Catawba General Store, we’re creating opportunities for older adults to come together, nourish their bodies, and build connections that enrich their lives. All USS Meal Services opportunities are for older adults age 60 or better. For more information about USS Meal Services and our other Clark County locations, please contact us at 937-323-9688.
